HAPPY THANKSGIVING 2006

November 23, 2006

>>>DAY 13 STERLING HELD HOSTAGE.

This is Day 13 of the new Rt. 28- Sterling Blvd. Interchange being closed. 13 days ago today, I discovered Sterling was being denied access to this finished brand new 30 million dollar interchange. We have five more days to the interchange being opened if the state responds to the unanimous board resolution asking for its immediate opening. There is a sign out there right now that blinks "Change In Traffic Pattern on or about November 27". Stay alert.

Many stories on TV News, radio (WTOP, WMAL,WAGE), and newspapers have been aired or published. The whole world is watching.

>>> HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU AND ALL

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

I have a lot to be thankful for today. And I know you and Sterling have a lot to be thankful for.

The list is long but here's s short list of things that I am grateful for: a wonderful wife, six children and a holiday just to give thanks to God.

I am also grateful for the new playground at Sully elementary school. Thank you to the major donors Claude Moore Foundation ($20,000.00), LCSA, Shirley Construction, Greenvest, Miller and Smith, Chantilly Crushed Stone, many others (1,200 citizens and skilled workers from area companies). (a complete list of DONORS is here http://www.sullypto.com/donors.htm)

The playground is built and open to the public. It took $250,000 in cash support and $750,000 in donated volunteer and in kind donations of materials, food and effort. (There is actually a three minute Peter Klosky produced movie "Discovery Park The Movie" of the entire effort and it will blow you away (free download): on the homepage: http://www.sullypto.com/

Last Saturday, Veterans Day, I visited every home with an American Flag. I greeted hundreds of families honoring veterans and expressing their gratitude to their service.

I am grateful for their service today so I can live in peace. I have written every home a note and they have received that note of appreciation. Several veterans have written me. One wrote: "you brought both a smile and a tear to my eye" when he got my note.

He listed his service in several operations over a period of years. He is like the many men and women who we should remember today and also be thankful for.

Of course, I am grateful and thankful to all of you who have responded to my treasury of my re-election campaign which is number one in total money raised, so far, in the local 2007 races.

I am grateful and thankful for the success of the recent meeting for a Sheriff's substation in which many citizens got to hear a full report on the work done for seven years. The school board has been asked to give us the surplus land so that we can continue that discussion.

I am grateful for Sterling turning out on Election day and voting in the highest numbers for the marriage amendment. Sterling District precincts were the (#1) top precincts in Loudoun and in Virginia voting for the marriage amendement. Wow.

There is much more, but I am constantly reminded of how you give me the right to represent you and that you help me with my accomplishments. I am grateful you and I are a team.

The entire county is still in shock over the recent Sterling Boulevard Interchange battle and the urgent battle to open that intersection is not fully won until that intersection is open to you. I pray we can get it open by next week, Tuesday, to be exact. Remember that in your prayers.

You marched to your computers and to your phone lines and got others to do the same. You moved quickly and gave the encouragement and direction. One middle aged man, a father to several children, drove to Leesburg, walked into the board room and emphatically spoke with measured tones: "Open the Sterling Boulevard Interchange Now.... Today." He then waited for the board to vote. 100 of you also wrote.

This "transportation crime of the century" could not have been solved without you and I working together to solve it. I am grateful for that teamwork which proves to be critical over and over again.

These are things that stand out and make Sterling Americans special and unique. We are all busy but we are all standing for good things that no other community in Loudoun or the world has. And we will work to keep that community.

There is so much more, but I will end there. Thank you again. And Thanks be to God also.
