Snow and Ice All Around

January 21, 2007

Road conditions in the Sterling area are terrible right now. I have seen several accidents over the past few hours. And it is not going to get better with the sun going down.

If you do not need to go out, do not go out. It is still snowing and will snow until late at night. It is extremely slippery and it is very easy to slide or skid on the road. Traction is non-existent in some places. Roads all over are being closed until the temperature drops or plows come in.

Yes, I know its one inch but in some places its two inches of snow along with ice patches. Here's some of the accidents:
a car flipped over, a car smashing into another car at a stop light, and cars just going no where, just skidding.

>>>School and other Closings

I don't have that yet but it looks like schools will be at least delayed 2 hours since it will warm up to the 40s in the late morning. Most school events in Fairfax, PW and Loudoun were closed today. A decision will not be made until the early morning hours between 5:30 a.m. and 6 a.m.

Go to http://cmsweb1.loudoun.k12.va.us/loudoun/site/default.asp for closings.

On Monday morning (8 a.m. to 12 noon) if you need help, email me back with the task and give me your phone number. I have a one oclock meeting and will come by before that if you are in a pinch and will run an errand.

SIMPSON'S HOW TO GUIDE

Please take the time, read Sheriff Simpson's Guide on how to survive snowy conditions below. (ADDENDUM) Normally I would provide a link, but with conditions the way they are print it out and read it in case the power goes off. Thank you.
