Tonights Meetings Cancelled

January 26, 2004

>>>Preliminary Budget Worksessions Tonight Cancelled

Due to the inclement weather conditions, the Special Finance/Government Services Committee meeting tonight is cancelled. At present, the meeting of the Finance Committee, which I serve as Chairman, is on for Tuesday night starting at 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

>>>>Republican Meeting Tonight Cancelled.

Randy Minchew tells me : "we will not be able to use the auditorium at Heritage High School tonight. Plus, with the coming of a large ice storm from the South, prudence and safety dictates that we do not hold a meeting tonight. Given our need to take action on some of the items referenced in the Meeting Call sent to all LCRC members by mail, we will probably need to schedule a make-up meeting before our regular February 24, 2004 meeting. A Meeting Call for this make-up meeting will be sent to you by separate mailing. Please convey this cancellation information to any of our Loudoun Republicans in your District."

County property owners will be receiving their real property assessment notices in the near future. Prior to the mailing of individual notices, currently scheduled for the week of February 16, staff has provided the Board an overview of property assessments for 2004. The County will issue a statement later this week providing this information so residents are aware that notices will be forthcoming in the mail.

Here's a summary reflecting January 1, 2004 fair market values for residential, commercial/industrial, and residential/agricultural properties over 20 acres. Increases in the average property by category are as follows:

Residential 11.27% Commercial/Ind. 2% Residential (20 100 acres) 3% Residential (Over 100 acres) 1%

Staff has asked me, as Chairman of the Finance/Government Services Committee to place a discussion of assessment information on that Committee's agenda next week. This is a significant increase and I am working with the new majority to reduce this increase.

PLEASE encourage the Board to work to reduce the tax increase by writing all 9 of us at [email protected].
