>>>> Tax Increase Still Likely

You have encouraged some Supervisors and some others are not as anxious to vote for a tax increase.

Some good can be had to keep up your emails to [email protected]

Last night when a "straw" (non-binding) vote came up in the budget work session that I chaired as Finance Chairman, there were only two votes for the 97.5 tax rate which would represent an increase in the tax rate from the current 89 cent rate.

>>>>THIS MEANS WE ARE IN TROUBLE

There are those on the board who want a higher rate and no reduction in the rate of increase of spending. That would require more money, more taxes and much more spending. They are not in agreement with those who want to have some kind of cut. The distinct minority are supervisors who want to KEEP the 89 cent rate.

>>>> ADMINISTRATOR LAID OUT HIGH TAX AND LOW TAX PLANS

At our request, we had a plan for a low tax rate and a high tax rate.

The proposed county administrator budget, at the 97.5 cent tax rate, reduces the INCREASE in the school budget by 16 million dollars. In order to keep the tax rate at 89 cents, there has to be a significant reduction in all the many requests we receive from the county (29 per cent of the total budget) and the schools (71 per cent of the budget).

>>> SHORT LIST OF WASTEFUL SPENDING

Mandarin Chinese, $130 million Science Academies that promote corporate welfare for multi-billion dollar companies, free lunches totaling $2.3 million for Ashburn and Middleburg students, half full newly build schools, requests for schools ahead of schedule and an expensive administrative building which was rejected by Loudoun voters are just some examples of school waste.

On the government side, there seems to be a concerted effort to award a whopping six percent salary increase to all county workers, discourage volunteers who cost nothing and hire paid firemen who cost millions, build taxpayer paid for HORSE parks in areas where there is open space for miles in every direction, build $400,000 stone billboards pushing "Wine Country", hand out $150,000 to British polo players and subsidize the 12 billion dollar Howard Hughes Institute with six million dollars of your tax dollars. This is just a short list.

I supported Jim Clem's move to keep the salary of the supervisors at $22,400 rather than go with a raise for the next term of office. Clem and I voted "yes" to keeping the salary at $22,400 , for 2 yes, 6 no with Kurtz absent for the vote. The motion to keep the Supervisor salaries failed.

>>>> VOTE TO SET TAX RATE IS TUESDAY

The Board is meeting Tuesday to set the tax rate. Your email will help again. Thank you.

>>>> REPUBLICAN PARTY UNITED
>>>> 1900 DELEGATES DEFENDED FOR NOW

150 members of the Republican Committee packed into a hot room at the Eastern Loudoun Library Monday night and supported the legal status of 1900 delegates (including many of you) to vote at the June convention. I saluted the party chairman Paul Protic and his attorney Patrick Mc Sweeney and closed with the room roared and shouted near unanimous approval.

Thank you to the 100 members of the committee and fellow candidates and elected officials who cheered me and invested the time on short notice in a hot room to defend 1900 innocent Republicans who deserve to have their voice heard. God Bless you all.

>>>> DELGAUDIO ELECTED CHAIRMAN OF RT. 28 DISTRICT

In a courteous non-partisan manner, Democratic Party Fairfax Board of Supervisors Chairman Gerald Connolly nominated me for Chairman of the Route 28 Highway Transportation Improvement District, the quasi-government citizen group that administers the construction of Route 28 using a special tax on commercial properties in that area. It was seconded by Loudoun Supervisor Lori Waters and I was elected yesterday (Wednesday, March 28) unanimously by representatives from both Fairfax and Loudoun.

Statement acknowledging election: "Thank you for having the faith in me. I have served on the Route 28 Tax District for 8 years and look forward to enthusiastically and vigorously promoting, developing more improvements along Route 28 for the benefit of Fairfax and Loudoun citizens."
