Sterling Business Damaged in Early Morning Fire

Dear Sterling American

The Loudoun County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management responded to a fire that damaged a Sterling business early Tuesday morning.

Loudoun County's Emergency Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call at 4:18 a.m. from a resident reporting a smell of smoke in the area of North Fillmore and Holly Avenues in the Sterling Park subdivision. Fire and rescue personnel from Sterling Volunteer Fire Company were dispatched to investigate. While in the area checking, units discovered the source of the smoke coming from the convenience store located at 209 East Holly Avenue. Additional units were dispatched to assist from the Cascades, Moorefield, Ashburn, Sterling Rescue, and mutual aid units from Fairfax County.

First arriving units found smoke coming from the structure. Entry was made to discover the source of the fire and fire fighters worked for approximately 30 minutes to bring the incident under control. The damage to the building and contents is estimated at $150,000 dollars. Units remained on the scene for an additional 1 ½ hours to complete the overhaul of the damaged areas.

No civilian or fire fighter injuries were reported. The Loudoun County Fire Marshal's Office remains on the scene investigating the cause of the fire.
