BATTLE PLAN TO SAVE CHRISTMAS

November 29, 2009

Please forward this Battle Plan to Save Christmas in Loudoun to your friends and family. Thank you.

Sherri says
"What a cowardly way to remove something that means so much to the people of this town!"

>>> SNEAK ATTACK ON CHRISTMAS AT THE COURTHOUSE

No one expected this attack on tradition without notice and without public discussion.

NBC TV Television news crews were summoned by citizens. With the exception of the Leesburg Today, few other media outlets are even reporting online or on-air about it. Yet.

Most the public notice has been by one member of the Leesburg Rotary Club and one couple.

Councilman Ken Reid and I, your fellow Sterling American, were both notified by the citizen.

But these few citizens have now been joined by hundreds and Sterling Americans are just beginning to respond.

Pro-Christmas Americans are taking time from family Thanksgiving events and errands to sign the petition condemning the wrongful act of a Board of Supervisors Advisory Committee action taken last week against a group seeking to continue a 50 year tradition of placing a Nativity, a Menorah or a Christmas Tree at the Leesburg Courthouse.

A petition was posted Saturday and in 24 hours over 465 people have signed it.

Join them. Join them now.

I want to draw your attention to this important petition that I signed also:

"Keep Leesburg Courthouse Nativity Scene"
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/leesburgnativity?e

I really think this is an important cause, and I'd like to encourage you to add your signature, too. It's free and takes less than a minute of your time.

Over 465 citizens from Sterling and Loudoun have signed the petition and most have their names publicly listed.

>>> PUBLIC INPUT ON BANNING CITIZENS FROM PUBLIC PLACES

Citizens are signing up to protest the wrongful action and demanding the Board of Supervisors reverse the banning of public access of public property on Tuesday at their regular meeting of the Board of Supervisors. They are writing the board, posting comments at the Leesburg Today and over 100 comments are posted at the petition website.

Some citizens are coming 6:30 p.m. to the board of supervisors room where the board sits to hear public input. Supervisors are not permitted (by majority vote) to respond during "public input".

Perhaps an action item can be considered Tuesday to reverse this travesty.

Some of you ask "what is this committee that banned the Nativity?".

Loudoun has many citizen committees. They post their mission, the time and date of their meetings, their minutes and regularly post their monthly locations of those meetings on our calendar online. And their membership is posted as well.

This particular committee, Courthouse Grounds and Facility Task Force, has not posted their meetings, minutes or membership online at the loudoun government website. In fact an application to use the courthouse grounds is still posted online:
http://loudoun.gov/Default.aspx?tabid=365

So, the public (thats you and me) according to the government can still use the public grounds, according to the government!

But this "courthouse committee" in fact is banning citizens.

This seems to be, intentionally or unintentionally, a confused and irregular process.

And an application for the use of the courthouse grounds is clearly posted at this same website!
http://www.loudoun.gov/Default.aspx?tabid=326&fmpath=/Courts Project/Application

Members of the Board have not been told of this terrible decision. I served on the ad hoc committee on committees and the Board is supposed to review all actions of these committees.

This committee is comprised of six citizens appointed "at large" by the Board of Supervisors and one representative of the Leesburg Town Council, which may be a citizen or a member of the Leesburg Town staff, and two members of the judiciary as ex-officio members.

I am sure most of the members of the board of supervisors, with the exception of one supervisor, even know about this. The committe clearly is misinterpreting a board policy or the board has to "clarify" a wrongful policy (i.e. IF THE BOARD DID A BAD THING, ITS GOT TO REVERSE ITSELF!)

>>>WHAT WILL LOUDOUN COUNTY GOVERNMENT DO?

I don't know what the Loudoun county government will do. They could reverse this due to the outrage of thousands of Americans pouring forth as they learn about this. Most people hearing about this want things to remain as they have been with private citizens having access to host a public display, prayer or ceremony at the courthouse as always.

Last year "Loudoun had a "first" on December 29, when members of four faiths joined together on a cold day at the Loudoun County Courthouse to celebrate the season." Muslims, Sikhs, Jews and Christians gathered to celebrate the season on the Courthouse grounds.

Last year, there was a nativity and a menorah.

This year, today: will we allow the government to ban all faiths to celebrate their beliefs on public property?

???? WHAT WILL YOU DO???

Meetings coming up or comment methods to appear to testify and ask the board to reverse itself

>>> sign the petition
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/leesburgnativity?e

>>> WRITE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

all nine supervisors get the message at [email protected]

The Comment Line for the board of supervisors is: 703-777-0115

>>> TELL YOUR PASTORS

Ask your congregations to pray that this can be resolved quickly.

>>> AND PUT UP THE DECORATIONS

There are some big celebrations Thanksgiving, the moslem Eid Al-Adha, Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, Dec. 21, Christmas, the Christian celebration of the birth of Jesus, Dec. 25; and the Sikh holiday, Jan. 6.

In Sterling it is part of the tradition for CHRISTMAS LIGHTS to be up. I have asked my staff to put up the lights and I will be putting up the lights at my house as well.

FINALLY,
>>> Forward this to your entire email list and then call them on the phone.

You owe your friends that phone call anyway. Call them and wish them Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and tell them about this and forward them this email message. Don't leave this to someone else.

Please do not assume any notice has been given to anybody about this. It is a sneak attack on Christmas.

>>> COURTS GROUNDS MASTER PLAN ALLOWS SEASONAL DISPLAYS?

For the record, the 2005 (thats 4 years ago) Courts Grounds Master Plan says nothing about banning nativity scenes. It actually states where they go on the grounds! it reads:

Quote "Seasonal displays such as a Christmas nativity scene are located near the fence adjacent to the intersection of King and Market. The Marshall statue should be relocated Streets. Other seasonal displays have included a Christmas tree
within the grounds, but not necessarily in its original location." Unquote

>>> SEND ANOTHER MESSAGE WITH A DONATION!

I call attention and ask for wrongful policies to be resisted. I am proud when government works well and responds to the demands of Sterling and the citizens of Loudoun. I am saddened when a lack of response by government causes more grief to Sterling. And I am hurt when taxes and spending go on up and directions are giving to increase spending without limit.

You and your neighbors elected and re-elected me.

The election is approaching and time is short. Do you want to hear about the accomplishments and the misdeeds of liberals in the future from me as Sterling Supervisor? That's means a campaign for re-election.

I have put off asking for help due to the Governor's race and the local delegate races, and they have won.

Donate to Friends of Delgaudio so that this message can reach thousands more. Donate to Friends of Delgaudio so that you can have a voice to continue to speak out against wrongful actions taken during the holiday season.

Donate to Friends of Delgaudio so that we can respond to attacks like the assault on Christmas that is in full swing right now as I write you.

The message you send by making a maximum donation to Friends of Delgaudio at this time is that you will not allow people who hate Christmas to take away your freedom to celebrate and continue traditions in a public fashion.

The message you send is a loud message that you will not be silent, subdued and beaten into forgeting the America that you have grown up in and still love.
